About
When I first set up a retail website, I was quoted thousands by several companies. I have no doubt that there are fabulous web designers out there who can create the site of your dreams but will it do what you want and do you want to pay for it?
When it comes down to it, what really attracts you to a site? Is it the fancy gadgetry? Is it the whistles and bells? or is it the content presented in a easy to navigate format that doesn't look like it was created by a 2 year old?
Having run 2 websites concurrently (one with whistles and bells and the other without) selling the same product, I surprisingly found that the site without the whistles and bells far surpassed the other one. Customers told me that it was because they felt it was more friendly.
I also found I was constantly harassed by people who wanted me to pay them to get me higher up on the search engine results. Ridiculous really as by myself I'd managed to get to top of the list for my keywords.
Sense of humour preferred but not essential.
